The purpose of shed kits is to provide a complete, easy to assemble shed that the average home owner can handle building on their own; while being less expensive than hiring a local contractor to build you a custom shed and install it. When you have someone build a shed for you from scratch, there are many issues to consider - design, longevity, quality, to name a few.
When you purchase a prefab shed kit, everything's already been proven and thought through. Design, engineering and quality control - you can be confident that you're going to get a good product, and you don't have to pay for someone's time to engineer and create a completely custom design. Shed kits are also a much faster way to the end product. You simply find a size and style that works for your application, order it, have it built (or build it yourself), and you're done - simple and easy.
Shed kits come in two basic formats, pre-cut, and pre-assembled and are available in a wide selection of styles with a huge selection of options and upgrades.
Prefab Shed Kits & Precut Shed Kits
Pre-cut means all the shed components are precut and ready for
assembly. Pre-assembled goes one step further and provides all the same
components, but they are already put together in modular sections. Wall
and roof sections are prebuilt, greatly reducing the amount of time
required for assembly. Pre-cut kits will require more time to build, but
are less expensive.

What to know about Prefab Shed Kits
Pre-assembled means major structural components such as walls, trusses and the floor are built and framed for you, but it is still necessary to assemble the entire structure. Sheathing, trimming, and shingling are also required. Unlike precut kits, where everything is separate pieces, pre-assembled walls can be very heavy. Depending on the size, you'll need to make sure you have several people (at least) onsite to help lift components into place. Preassembled shed kits can be assembled in as little as one day, where as precut shed kits will take a double the time.
What to know about Precut Shed Kits
Pre-cut shed kits are generally selected for several reasons. 1.) Shipping costs. Shipping a precut kit is generally less expensive than a prefab shed kits because the various components are precut and not assembled - meaning they take up less space. 2.) Advanced carpentry skills. Precut kits are more complex to build than that of preassembled kits, but they are also less expensive. So if you have the experience and skill level to build it this way you can reduce your costs. Keep in mind it takes much longer to assemble this format so your labor cost will increase. So generally speaking precut kits are the less expensive route - but will take longer to put together (important to note if timing is sensitive).
Choosing Between the two Kits
Precut kits will be less expensive on two fronts, direct cost of the kit, and shipping costs. Where you lose the savings is when it comes to build time. If you're paying someone who's never put a shed kit together before, it's going to take much longer to assemble than a pre-assembled kit.
Depending on your labor costs, and the required time frame to build your shed, you may be better off with the preassembled kits. Really it all comes down to cost and time.
